“Taking FESTAC to the next level” is the theme for this year’s edition for the Limbe Festival of Art and Culture that is schedule to take place on the 9th April to the 13th of April 2019 at the Divisional Head Quarter of Fako Division.
The revelation was made known to the press by the Government Delegate of the Limbe City Council Andrew Motanga Monjimba during a press conference that took place on Wednesday February 20th 2019 at the chambers of the Government Delegate.
According to the Government Delegate, FESTAC is a festival that has come to stay hence, there is need to improve on its organization so as to make it an international festival that can only be compared with some international festival like that of Calabar in Nigeria amongst others. “FESTAC is like a monster seed that keeps on growing from strength to strength and in the nearest future it will be contesting with some other international festivals around the world”
Quizzed on security challenges facing the South West Region like the continue calls for “Ghost Town” by Anglophone separatists fighters and activists, Andrew Motanga Monjimba pointed out that “Limbe FESTACis the people’s event. It is for them, and it is by them that is why their participation has been massive and enthusiastic in all previous editions. We are strongly convinced that we are serving our community and going by their massive participation and support, we have calm minds and spent to continue entertaining them through the valorization of our cultures which are seriously threatened by modernism and other cultures” Andrew Motanga Monjimba told the press.
Andrew Motanga Monjimba, equally highlighted that “the past two editions of Limbe FESTAC have put our close relationship and collaboration we have built over the years to test. We came out stronger because we worked marvelously, as together we succeeded in organizing Limbe FESTAC whose successes went beyond our wildest expectations taking into consideration the socio-political climate at the time”
Raffle draw will be added this year so as to bring many people on board and to make sure that IDPs participate actively during the festival.
Andrew Motanga Monjimba concluded that “ I want to assure the people of Limbe that the Limbe City Council shall not renege on its republican responsibilities of developing Limbe in all facets be it by constructing roads, providing social amenities, promoting our arts and culture, developing and supporting education, youth development and sports, keeping our town clean and above all safe”
