Freshmen of the Catholic University Institute of Buea CUIB Yesterday October 16, 2018 answered present at the university’s main campus in Molyko Buea as well as its satellite Campus in Douala-Bonamousadi, to take off for the academic year 2018-19.
These young men and women who have made CUIB their choice for academic molding felt a sense of belonging as they shook hands with members of administration, faculty and staff of CUIB while making their way into the various campuses.
This act of welcome and love from the university to newly admitted students is a flagship tradition of the university which presents it as an institution that puts students at the center of all its operations.
In an official welcome message to the students, the Vice Provost; Dr George Atem told freshmen that “‘a good start begins a successful journey” and invited them to make use of the facilities exposed to them by the University for academic, moral and spiritual excellence.
He highlighted CUIB as having three major arms: the academic, the research, and the pastoral arm while describing the academic arm as the “soul” of CUIB and reiterated that students are the sole reason to the existence of CUIB. Making this declaration, he called on the faculty and staff body of the institution to take on their role in ensuring that the students get the best from CUIB and emerge as servant leaders who will contribute to the sustainable development of their communities.
He further applauded the efforts by Rev. Fr . Michel Ngantchop – Consultant at CUIB and team, for ensuring that CUIB spreads its tentacles to Douala and Yaoundé this academic year.
Speaking on behalf of the President, Rev.Sr Mary Kombe- Special assistant to the President expressed words of appreciation to faculty and staff for their good works and prayed for God’s guidance over the students as they take on the 2018-19 academic year.
During the event, freshmen were oriented on the functioning of the university in general and the functioning of the schools and units in particular.
These freshmen expressed satisfaction being part of the CUIB family and are excited to continue the journey for excellence in the city of Saint and Scholars
The event brought together over 200 freshmen who will sail together with the returning students of the Catholic University Institute of Buea.
